About Becky & Lucy
Lucy Adkins
Lucy Adkins is a writer of poetry, fiction, and non-fiction. Her poetry has been published in many journals and anthologies, and her chapbooks include One Life Shining: Addie Finch Farmwife from Pudding House Press, and Two-Toned Dress, which was the winner of the 2019 Blue Light Press Poetry Prize. Her fiction has appeared in the South Dakota Review and the Voices From the Plains anthology. For over twenty-five years, she has served as a leader of generative writing groups and workshops, and is currently a writing instructor for Larksong Writers Place. Her MFA is from the University of Nebraska at Omaha.
Becky Breed
Becky Breed, a veteran educator, poet, and essayist, co-wrote and facilitated “Women at the Springs,” a Nebraska Humanities program empowering women to live more courageously, as well as “The Intergenerational Project” connecting elders and teens through stories to promote communication, writing, and use of the media. She has an Ed. D. in Education, and, in addition to teaching at the university level, was the principal of a Gold Star School which was awarded recognition for significant improvements in reading, writing and math. Her passions involve helping young people, women, minorities—all seekers—find their voices and articulate new visions for the future.
Together Lucy and Becky developed the Essential Writing and Creativity Series, beginning with Writing in Community: Say Goodbye to Writer’s Block and Transform Your Life which was awarded an “Ippy” in the Independent Publisher’s Book Awards. The second in the series, The Fire Inside: A Companion for the Creative Life, will be released in June of 2021. For their work in furthering the love of writing in the community, Lucy and Becky were jointly awarded the Lincoln, Nebraska 2020 Mayors Arts Award for Excellence in the Literary Arts. “Getting in touch with our creativity and writing has had a profound impact on our lives,” Lucy and Becky say. “It is our deepest pleasure to share that discovery with others.”
